Tracking Dynamic Sites

Dynamic sites use variables to generate content on-the-fly and are not easily tracked by most ordinary website statistics methods. EZ Webstat allows you to track dynamic pages and produce statistics that are valuable to you.

A typical dynamic page may have a URL like this:

http://www.yoursite.net/load.php?category=12345&style=blue&PHPSESSID=4b1e384ad74619bd212e236e52a5a174If

If you were to use ordinary tracking on this page, each visitor would have a unique session ID and the resulting log entry would show one visitor to the page. This is not useful and EZ Webstat can work around this problem.

Place the tracking code in the dynamic page code so it will be produce on the generated page.

Strip All Variables

By default, EZ Webstat will strip off everything past the question mark and show statistics for the dynamic page www.yoursite.net/load.php. If this is how you want to track this page, you do not need to do anything.

Choose Variables to be Tracked

You can track a dynamic page by keeping only the variables you want and stripping off session IDs and other unneeded data. On the User Profile page, you can customize the tracking of dynamic pages using the Short query box.

If you want to track only a portion of the query, enter only the terms you want tracked in the Short query box. In this example, enter

category
style

to track both category and style. This will strip off session IDs.

You probably don't care about the style, so just enter category in the Short query box and style would be ignored along with any session IDs.

Track using all Variables

If you want to track the complete URL including all variables and session IDs, enter * into the Short query box.

Remember to click on "save" to change the tracking methods.

Viewing Statistics for Dynamic pages

In the statistics, you will be able to see hits and unique visitors to the dynamic page as if it were an ordinary static page. For example, if you entered only category in the Short query box, you would see visitors to pages like:

load.php?category=12345
load.php?category=12346
load.php?category=12347
load.php?category=12348
